About Êzdîxan

Êzdîxan (pronounced “Ez-dee-khan”; also spelled Ezdixan, Êzîdxan) is an independent, non-profit, multilingual knowledge, news, and community platform about the Yazidis (Êzîdî; also spelled Yezidis). It collects, verifies, and publishes knowledge about the religion, history, culture, language, heritage, and diaspora of the Yazidis worldwide — in 14 languages, freely accessible and free of charge for everyone.

The name joins Êzdî (Yazidi) with the suffix -xan (house/homestead): “the House of the Yazidis” — a digital place where the community’s knowledge is gathered, preserved, and shared.

Our Mission

For centuries, the knowledge of the Yazidis has been handed down orally, scattered across many countries, and repeatedly threatened by persecution. Êzdîxan aims to gather this knowledge in one place, secure it with documented sources, and make it accessible worldwide — for the diaspora, for the young generation, for researchers, and for everyone who is interested. Three principles guide every publication:

1. Source-based: Statements are grounded in standard academic literature (including Kreyenbroek, Omarkhali, Açıkyıldız, Spät, Asatrian/Arakelova, Rodziewicz, Allison), documented primary sources, and reputable press. What is uncertain is labeled as uncertain.
2. Respect for the tradition: The Yazidi religion is presented from its own self-understanding. Slanders — above all the false “devil worshippers” label — are explicitly named as such and refuted; Tawûsî Melek is the highest of the Seven Angels, never the “devil”.
3. Independent and open: Êzdîxan is not affiliated with any party, organization, or religious current, and is not financed through advertising. All content is open to every reader.

What Êzdîxan Offers

• Wiki: more than 60 in-depth, continuously expanded articles on religion and theology, history and the Fermans (persecutions), language and script, festivals, social order, diaspora, and more — the heart of the platform.
• News: daily aggregated news about Yazidis worldwide from community and press sources (including Êzîdîpress, Yazda, Kurdistan24, Rudaw) — republished items always with attribution of the original source, machine-translated into all 14 languages.
• Timeline: a chronological overview of the most important events in Yazidi history, from the earliest period to the present day, with sources and an assessment of authenticity.
• Sacred Texts: a growing collection of more than 100 Qewlên, Beytên, Duayên, and other texts of the oral religious tradition.
• Êzdîkî Alphabet: the Yazidi script, interactive — with pronunciation, transliteration, and a translator from Latin into Yazidi script.
• Festival Calendar, Directory, Forum, and Community: the living present — festivals and dates, Yazidi associations, artists and service providers, exchange and member profiles.
• Learning App: free language learning for the community.

How We Work

Êzdîxan is under continuous development (public launch of publications: May 2026) and grows week by week. New wiki articles go through several stages of review: research across multiple independent sources, fact-checking, editorial revision, and subsequent translation into the other 13 languages. News from other media outlets is monitored, selected according to the platform’s publication guidelines, and always reproduced with a reference to the source. Errors reported to us are corrected promptly — feedback is expressly welcome via the Get Involved page.

The platform’s current key figures (number of wiki topics, languages, sacred texts, and news posts) are displayed live on the homepage.

For Researchers and the Media

Êzdîxan also sees itself as a citable working basis and starting point for scholarship and journalism: wiki articles cite their sources, uncertain traditions are marked, and the Timeline points to supporting evidence. For academic work, we recommend always consulting the primary and scholarly literature cited there in addition to Êzdîxan.
